Stoke-on-Trent van driver dies in crash on M1

His family is being supported by specialist officers.

A man from Stoke-on-Trent has died following a road traffic collision that happened on the M1 on Saturday 20th March.

At around 9.55am between junction 15 Milton Keynes, and Junction 15 Northampton of the M1 Northbound there was a collision between a VW Crafter Flatbed van and a silver cab Volvo Heavy Goods Vehicle with a blue curtain side trailer.

The crash occurred near to a blue Vauxhall Astra which was broken down in lane one of the motorway. The Astra was not struck in the collision and the driver was not injured.

Sadly the driver of the VW flatbed truck, a man in his fifties from Stoke-on-Trent sustained serious injuries and died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

The driver of the Volvo lorry was uninjured.

Senior investigating officer, Sergeant Daniel Collett from Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, based at Milton Keynes, said: "We are appealing for any drivers, who have not already been spoken to by police officers on scene, who witnessed the collision, or those who may have dash-cam of the moments leading up to the collision, or the collision itself, to contact us.

"We would ask them to call 101 asking for Thames Valley Police and quoting the reference 43210116853."
