Staffordshire Police issue warning over people leaving their cars unattended whilst de-icying
It's after two incidents of cars being stolen whilst the engine was switched on
As the cold snap continues, Staffordshire Police have issued a warning to people leaving their engine running whilst defrosting the car.
It's after a number of cases of cars being stolen when the engine has been left running.
Last Friday, a Renault Clio was stolen whilst it was left running in Stoke-on-Trent.
Police were called to Birchfield Road, Abbey Hulton at 6pm on the 24 November.
The suspect was described as a white man who was wearing a black hat and a black jacket. He got into the driver’s side of the car and drove off.
Around three hours later, at 9pm, the car was found abandoned on Chelmsford Drive, Bentilee.
Then in another incident on Sunday morning, a silver Vauxhall Corsa was taken on Ash Bank Road in Werrington. The owner left the keys in the ignition whilst the car defrosted, prompting an opportunist to steal it.
Staffordshire Police say they are now carrying out house to house enquiries in the area. They want anyone who saw anything to contact them.
