Staffordshire man sentenced for historical sexual assault against a child
Levi Watkis pressurised and scared the girl into doing what he said
A 38-year-old man’s been sentenced after being found guilty of a historical sexual offence against a child in Staffordshire.
Levi Watkis from Meir was found guilty of sexual activity with a girl, aged between 13 and 15, between July 2006 and July 2007 following a trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court in May.
He has now been sentenced to five years in prison and put on the Sex Offenders register for life.
Detective Inspector Zoe Kelsall of Staffordshire Police said: "Watkis took advantage of his victim’s age by paying her compliments in the run up to the attack. They were alone and he pressurised and scared her into doing what he said.
"I pay tribute to the victim, who has shown tremendous bravery in coming forward and allowing us to bring this case before the courts.
"Historic crimes can be challenging to take on but we hope this adds as a reminder to people that we will continue to do whatever is necessary to bring those responsible to justice, no matter how far in the past these crimes might have taken place."
