A shopping village in North Staffordshire will stay closed all day today after a large fire at a restaurant overnight.

Crews were called to Slater's Shopping & Craft Village in Chorlton, near Newcastle-under-Lyme shortly before 4am this morning.

Fire engines from Loggerheads and Newcastle attended the blaze, followed by Burslem and Hanley on-call firefighters. They also used the aerial platform from Longton.

Crews used four breathing apparatus and two hose-reel jets to extinguish the fire.

Officers remain at the scene this afternoon as they continue to check for hot-spots and make the area safe.

Officers from Staffordshire Police also remain in attendance, as enquiries continue.
