Man fighting for life in hospital after serious assault in Cheshire

Police say the victim sustained injuries to his ribs

Detectives investigating a serious assault in Northwich are appealing for information from members of the public.

Two men got out of a vehicle at the junction at The Quayside, Witton Street in Northwich and assaulted a 42-year-old man.

The man is in the Royal Stoke Hospital with serious injuries and is currently in a critical but stable condition.

The assault occurred at approximately 2am on Saturday 26 March.

A 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old man both from Northwich were arrested on suspicion of assault. They have since been released on conditional bail.

Detective Sergeant Ross Hamilton, of Cheshire Police, said: “The victim is still in a serious condition in hospital after sustaining injuries to his ribs and our enquiries are ongoing to establish what led to this happening.

“As part of the ongoing investigation I am keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the assault take place or have information that could be of use to us.

“I also want to encourage residents in the area to check their CCTV or dash cam footage in the early hours of Saturday 26 March and get in touch if it could assist with our enquiries.”
