Police are appealing for information following an incident in Stapeley yesterday evening (Wednesday 5 August).

At 7.46pm police received a report of a man walking round the Stapeley estate and Cronkinson Nature reserve with what looked like a sword. Police, supported by armed officers, the helicopter and a search dog team combed the area, but the man was not located.

The man was wearing a character mask and a black hooded tracksuit. He was also wearing black fingerless gloves.

PC Matt Stonier said: “We’re currently continuing our enquiries to establish what has actually gone on and to identify the man. We’ll be re-contacting the witnesses we have spoken to so far to get a more detailed understanding of what this man was doing yesterday evening and any further details that may help us track him down.

“I’d also urge the man himself to get in touch to establish whether this was a real weapon and to get to the bottom of what has clearly caused concern in the community.”

Anyone with information should contact Cheshire Police on 101 or via the website quoting IML 1053966.
