Man jailed over sex attack on stranger in Stoke
Pardeep Attwal left the victim distressed and in fear, leaving a profound impact on them.
A 34-year-old man from Scotland has been jailed after carrying out a “distressing” sexual assault in Stoke-on-Trent.
Pardeep Attwal, of Irvine, Ayrshire, faces two years and four months’ behind bars after being convicted of the attack following a trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.
He was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for ten years.
Attwal, who had been on a work visit to Stoke and had been staying at a nearby hotel, approached his victim as they walked along Glebe Street shortly before 10pm on Thursday 15 October 2020.
He asked his victim for assistance before carrying out his assault, kissing and touching them inappropriately.
Detective Inspector Zoe Kelsall, of the force’s Rape and Serious Sexual Offences team, said: “The victim was walking home alone when they were assaulted by Attwal – who was a complete stranger to them.
“They were left distressed and in fear by Attwal’s actions and the incident has had a profound impact on them.
“We hope this sentence acts as a reminder that we will do whatever it takes to bring offenders to justice and will do our best to ensure people feel safe on our county’s streets.”
