A man has been jailed for more than one-and-a-half years following an attack on a woman in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Cameron Bennett, 23, of no fixed address, went to the victim’s address during the evening on 11 January this year.

He made threats towards the woman after being asked to leave the address.

Bennett then pushed the woman in the chest before going onto damage a bedroom door and lights.

Thankfully, the victim was not injured.

Bennett surrendered himself and was arrested the same day.

On Tuesday 2 April, Bennett was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court to 22 months in prison after pleading guilty to making threats to kill and assault by beating.

Bennet has also been ordered to pay a surcharge of £187.

PC Thomas Anderson, the officer in the case, said: “This was a very distressing incident for the victim and we are pleased with the sentence given to Bennett.

“We are committed to tackling violence, abuse and intimidation of women and girls (VAIWG) and we take this very seriously.

“We are also committed to targeting perpetrators of these crimes and holding them responsible for their actions.

“With the help of our partners across the criminal justice system we are committed to delivering the toughest enforcement available to those found guilty of violence against women and girls.”
