Man dies in fatal shed fire in Stoke-on-Trent

It happened near Birches Head Road

A man has died following a fatal shed fire in Stoke-on-Trent.

Crews were called to an address near Birches Head Road just after midday on Sunday (8 October).

Teams from Longton, Hanley and Sandyford went to the scene and began work to extinguish the blaze using hose reel jets.

A man, in his 70s, suffered serious injuries at the scene and was taken to hospital by paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Sadly, he later died as a result of his injuries.

The fire was extinguished and crews stayed at the scene to investigate the cause alongside colleagues from Staffordshire Police. It was later deemed accidental after a discarded cigarette had set alight inside the shed.

No one else was injured in the fire.
