A man has been arrested following an attempted robbery at a betting shop in Stoke-on-Trent.

It happened on Saturday afternoon when officers were called to an address on Parliament Row, Hanley. A man had reportedly entered the premises and told people he had a gun.

Staff triggered their own security measures and police sent firearms teams to investigate.

A short time later, a 47-year-old man was arrested, of no-fixed-address, on suspicion of robbery. He has since been recalled to prison.

No weapons were found in the area and no one was injured.
