Flytipping crackdown steps up in Stoke-on-Trent
Officials are now rolling out round-the-clock CCTV to catch people

Environmental crime teams in Stoke-on-Trent say they're stepping up their clampdown on fly tipping and illegal dumping of waste across the city.
One part, Pyenest Street in Hanley has been plagued with illegal dumping and anti-social behaviour for years, and a little over 10 days ago cleansing and enforcement teams cleared the site of 16 tons of dumped mixed waste and installed a CCTV camera.
On Tuesday 5 December, the city council evidenced two individuals pulling up next to the clearing and emptying their vehicle of a considerable number of black bags and other items.
Staffordshire Police and the DVLA, enforcement officers have been able to identify the vehicle owner and issue a ÂŁ400 fixed penalty notice.
Cllr Amjid Wazir, cabinet member for city pride, enforcement and sustainability said: “We want to make it clear. We will not tolerate those who treat our streets and greenspaces as waste sites.
“We see no excuse for this type of behaviour, and now hope CCTV in hotspot areas, increased visible enforcement officers and the risk of prosecution will steer these people towards the legal ways of disposing of waste.”
Huge amounts of rubbish still being dumped
Over 900 fixed penalty notices have been issued for environmental crimes, since Tuesday 20 June. For the month of November, the city council cleared 557 incidents of illegal dumping in our towns and issued 145 fixed penalty notices.
Inspector Hayley Eaton, of the Stoke North local policing team (LPT), said: “We are committed to tackling community concerns by working closely with partner agencies to address anti-social behaviour, including fly-tipping, across Stoke-on-Trent."
