A woman accused of murdering her boyfriend by running him over with her car has pleaded not guilty to an alternative count of manslaughter.

Alice Wood, 23, is said to have "lost her temper" in a row after a party and then used her Ford Fiesta as a "weapon".

The incident took place outside their home in Rode Heath, Cheshire, on May 6 last year after both had earlier attended a birthday party in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, for a user of the Headway brain injury charity, where Mr Watson was a support worker.

On Friday, Wood, who denies murder, was arraigned at Chester Crown Court on the new count on the indictment and entered a plea of not guilty.

Judge Michael Leeming told jurors: "In due course you will see directions on how you approach the alternative count."

He said the prosecution continues to maintain that Wood is guilty of murder.

The trial was adjourned until Monday.
