Cheshire landmarks lit purple to unite against sexual violence
A vigil is taking place in a show of support for victims of sexual violence
Cheshire landmarks are being lit purple tonight to raise awareness of sexual violence and the support available to victims.
Dozens of people are coming together this evening in a show of unity and solidarity against sexual violence, while events will be on all day.
- From 10am-12am, there will be a live Q&A via Cheshire Police's Facebook Page.
- From 12pm-3pm, there will be a stalled event on the University of Chester's Exton Park Campus.
- From 8pm-9pm, there will be a Vigil at Chester Cross, Watergate Street.
Cheshire holds the final event of the North West Sexual Violence Awareness Week, which has seen buildings and landmarks across the region also light up purple.
It also comes 48 hours after Cheshire Police were successful in securing a £300,000 bid for the Government to make streets safer at night.
Becky Williams, from Rape Centre UK, is leading the action which she hopes will encourage people to reach out:
"At lot of the events that are happening are completely anonymous and they’re confidential so we’ve got a lot of restrictions on photography, there’s also safe places going to be provided so people can have confidential disclosures In there.
"Even if you’re not a victim right now or you’re not suffering, you might know somebody that’s looking for support, so it's having that information to be able to advise someone to be able to find it and access it in the future."
