Cat trapped in boarded up building in Hanley for 'up to a week' rescued
The RSPCA is now looking for his owner!
A black cat - thought to have been trapped in a disused building for a week in Stoke-on-Trent - has been rescued by the RSPCA.
The animal charity was contacted by a local vet after an employee heard the cat trapped in the building at Festival Heights Retail Park, Greyhound Way, last Wednesday (27 April) - which had been boarded up a week previously.
RSPCA inspector Natalie Perehovsky said: “The vets managed to get hold of the company who look after the building and that eventually led to the keys coming to me
“I set a trap with food for the cat on Saturday (April 30) and when we came back the following day the cat was safely inside, thankfully.
“We’re not sure how long he had been in the building. He was there for at least a day, but we think it could have been a week - since the boards were put up over the broken windows.”
The cat, who isn’t microchipped, was taken to the vets - who first raised the alarm about his predicament - and is doing well.
Natalie added: “Following a check over, he seemed to be healthy, but was kept in overnight. Unfortunately as he is not microchipped we don’t know if he has an owner out there searching for him.
“If anyone is aware of where this cat is from, please give us a call on 0300 123 8018, and quote 00857521. It would be lovely if we could find his owner. He has been through quite an ordeal.”
