A 16-year-old boy has been jailed for eight-and-a-half years following a sexual assault and burglary in Newcastle.

The boy was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court today (10 February). He pleaded guilty in November.

Police were called to reports that at approximately 7.30pm on Saturday 9 October 2021 a woman had been sexually assaulted and burgled in the King Street area.

The court heard that the boy barged into her home, demanded money from her and attacked her.

DC Sarah McQuade, of the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Unit, said: “The victim has shown great bravery throughout and provided us with the evidence we needed to build a case and secure a conviction.

“It has been a traumatic time for her, but now she has seen her attacker brought to justice.”
