An investigation has been launched after a report of a woman being seriously sexually assaulted at a park in Poulton on Friday night (October 22nd).

Lancashire Police were called at around 10.40pm to reports the woman – aged in her 20s – had been followed into the Jean Stansfield Memorial Park on Vicarage Road by a group of four or five men, before one of the men then carried out the attack.

The men are described as being aged in their 30s.

No arrests have been made as yet but enquiries are ongoing.

The woman is being supported by specially-trained officers.

DI Simon Pritchard, of Blackpool CID, said: “An investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances of this incident.

“We appreciate that it will have caused concern in the community but we would like to reassure residents we are doing everything we can to establish what happened. We would urge people to be vigilant but we will have extra patrols in the area and anybody with concerns is welcome to speak to an officer.

“We are now asking for anybody with information about this incident to come forward. Perhaps you were in the area at the time and you heard or saw something suspicious, perhaps you have CCTV or dashcam showing a group of men approaching the park between 9am and 10.20pm, or maybe you have other information that could help with our enquiries.

“Whatever you know, please get in touch immediately.”

Anybody with information is asked to call 101, quoting log 1667 of October 22nd.
