Investigation launched as woman dies in St Helens crash

It happened in Rainford on Sunday afternoon

Police have confirmed an investigation is underway following a fatal collision in Rainford on Sunday afternoon.

At about 12.55pm, officers were called to the Rainford bypass, to reports of a collision involving a grey Ford Mondeo and a grey Vauxhall Corsa.

Emergency services are in attendance and a man and two women who were travelling in the Corsa, were treated at the scene for serious injuries.

Sadly one of the women, a passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this time.

The two other occupants of the vehicle have been taken to hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the Mondeo stopped at the scene and is assisting with enquiries.
