Woman attacks hotel guests in Blackpool with a broken champagne glass
Michelle Lea suffers from bipolar disorder
A woman has been on the rampage in a Blackpool hotel, attacking people with a broken champagne glass.
Michelle Lea frightened guests in the bar and restaurant of The Ruskin Hotel and lunged at people including the hotel manager, ripping a hole in his shirt.
The 38 year old, from Albert Road in Blackpool, pleaded guilty to affray.
As she was remanded in custody for sentencing, she screamed: "You can't do this. I'm going to kill myself."
Stewart Kaufman, defending, said she suffers from bi-polar disorder, depression and anxiety and had not taken her medication for three days before the offence.
Lea had self harmed and had many cuts and scars on her arm.
A previous report had said she would find custody difficult to cope with because of her mental health problems.
But Lea was also described as failing to co-operate with anyone trying to help her including the probation service, mental health teams, accommodation officers and the benefits agency.
A report to the court by a probation officer said probation officers had been instructed not to see Lea alone. She had come to the probation service offices with razor blades saying she would kill herself and it was all the probation services fault.
Prosecutor, Pam Smith, said on the night of the offence, Lea was saying things which did not make sense and her wrist was bleeding. She then went into the restaurant and when she was told to drop the glass, she held it to her throat.
Lea then lunged at the security supervisor with the glass and then at the manager ripping his shirt.
The two men managed to disarm her and restrain her on the floor until the police arrived.
When interviewed she told police she was upset as she was getting bullied by other residents where she lived, so she went for a drink at the hotel next door and had about four pints of lager.
She was on a suspended prison sentence at the time of the offence.
