Two arrested in firearms discharge investigation
On August 1st someone shot at a house in Heysham Road before making off.
Detectives investigating a firearms discharge in Morecambe have today (Thursday, August 25) arrested two people.
Officers, supported by Greater Manchester Police, executed warrants at addresses in Manchester following an incident earlier this month.
Police had been called around 4pm on August 1 to reports someone had approached an address in Heysham Road before shooting at the front door and making off.
It is believed the offender arrived in the area with a second person in a red Skoda Fabia. This vehicle was later recovered in the Manchester area.
Thankfully nobody was injured as a result of the incident, which police believe was a targeted attack.
Detectives have conducted numerous enquiries since the discharge and are continuing to appeal for information.
Det Ch Insp Lee Wilson, of Lancashire Police, said: “We know how much concern this incident caused in the community and I am pleased to say we have today made two arrests as part of our investigation.
“Gun crime will not be tolerated on our streets. In recent days we have seen what a tragic effect such criminality can have, both regionally and nationally. While incidents such as this are rare, we take this discharge extremely seriously and have a dedicated team of officers working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.
“While we have made arrests and seized a Skoda Fabia, I would continue to encourage anyone with information, or who saw the car approaching or leaving Heysham Road at the time of the incident, to come forward. Your information could be vital to our enquiries. We would also ask anyone who was in the area and may have caught the car on dashcam or other footage, or by other means, to contact us.”
Anybody with information should call 101, quoting log 0937 of August 1, or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
A 39-year-old man from the Ancoats area of Manchester and a 16-year-old boy from Middleton have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and remain in custody.
