Preston Olympian and husband of Liz McColgan dies suddenly
John Nuttall died yesterday at the age of 56
Runner Liz McColgan has announced the sudden death of her husband, Preston born John Nutall.
She confirmed the former Olympic athlete turned coach sadly died of a heart attack on Thursday morning at the age of 56.
The long-distance runner started his sporting career at Preston Harriers before representing Great Britain at the 1996 Summer Olympics. He also ran twice at the Athletics World Championships.
In a post on Instagram his wife Liz McColgan, an Olympic silver medal-winning runner, paid tribute to him.
She said:
"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart I write this.
"My husband John Nuttall died yesterday morning with a sudden heart attack.
"A much loved dad, son, brother and husband.
"For those that loved John our hearts are breaking."
