Police in St Helens have released some CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with an attempted robbery in the borough.

Officers were called to the Best One shop on Gartons Lane on the morning of Sunday 30th May.

They say he waited for the other customers to leave before approaching the till demanding cash and throwing a drinks bottle at a male staff member.

The member of staff refused the demands which led to struggle where he was assaulted and items in the shop were damaged.

An investigation is currently underway.

Detective Inspector Jackie Guinness said: “Thankfully the member of staff was not badly injured but was left shaken by their ordeal.

“We would like to speak to the male pictured in the CCTV as we think he could have information which could assist our investigation.

“I would appeal to anyone who recognises the male to come forward and tell us what you know.”

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 21000349072.
