Police issue update after shots were fired in Preston

A man is currently in custody following the isolated incident

Earlier today Lancashire Police received reports of a firearm discharge in Preston.

Officers were called at around 9am to London Road, and road closures were put in place in the area - the roads have since reopened and we thank the public for their understanding.

A man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and remains in custody.

No one was injured as a result of the firearm discharge and there is no threat to the wider public.

It's believed a blank-firing weapon was involved. The weapon has been recovered and is being examined.

Supt Steve Rides of Preston Police, said: “We are treating this as an isolated incident and we have a man in custody.

“You will see an increased police presence in the area while we investigate the circumstances of what happened and to provide reassurance to the public.

“As part of our investigations, we are asking for anyone who has dash cam or CCTV footage from the area, to contact us.

“If you witnessed the incident, please get in touch.”
