Greater Manchester Police have been working with the fire service and local authority Community Resolution Team in Wigan under an operation to target anti social behaviour in the city.
It’s in their bid to provide a ‘robust’ response to things like ASB at this time of year in the city.
The force says Operation Treacle’s main aim is to reassure the community and tackle any crime that arises.
Across Wigan, the force has deployed its neighbourhood teams, with patrol vehicles containing a police officer, a firefighter and a member of the Community Resolution Team - all of whom were used during Halloween, and are back out again for the Bonfire Night weekend.
During Operation Treacle. the team, led by Police Sergeant Dave Law, alongside Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue have provided crime prevention advice to members of the community about bonfire safety and safe use of fireworks, identified unsafe bonfires and arranged their removal, issued local authority contact cards for individuals involved in anti-social behaviour.
Inspector Sam Davies of GMP’s Wigan district, said: “The work we do with our partners in the community is invaluable and a targeted partnership approach allows us to provide a robust policing response to issues of ASB around this time of year.
“Anti-Social Behaviour is continually raised by our communities as being an area of concern and our job as your neighbourhood officers is to listen to these concerns. We want the people we serve to feel safe and be free from criminal behaviour, from nuisance and disorder in the areas they live and work.
“The information gathered by the patrol teams are fed directly into the Community Safety Partnership so we can create interventions to create a safer Wigan for all.
