Murder probe launched after fatal Preston assault

A man who was seriously assaulted in Preston last week has died in hospital

Lancashire police have launched a murder investigation after a man was who assaulted in Preston city centre last week, died in hospital.

Jack Jermy-Doyle's family have described him as a funny, charismatic and amazing young man.

The 25-year-old, was assaulted on the junction of Harris Street and Birley Street at approximately 2.40am last Friday (August 12th) following an altercation with two males.

He was taken to hospital but died on Sunday (August 14th)

In a tribute Jack’s family said:

“No words can describe the utter devastation we as a family are feeling. Jack was a funny, charismatic, amazing young man who had so much to offer this world and we are truly broken that he has been taken from us so soon.

"He will forever be in our hearts and thoughts.”

Two men - aged 21 and 28 from Preston - have been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding and are on police bail while enquiries continue.

Officers are continuing to appeal for anybody who saw any of the three men described below in the area before or after the altercation or in Preston on Thursday evening or the early hours of Friday morning.

Male one is described as white, approximately 5ft 9ins tall in his late 20s. He was wearing a grey Under Armour baseball cap, grey shirt with black stripes and black patterned shorts.

Male two, who is described as short, of a slim build, with blonde hair. He was wearing a lime green top and shorts.

Male three, who is the victim, is described as white, approximately 6ft 1ins tall, in his early 20s, with dark hair. He was wearing a black and white check shirt over a black t-shirt, blue jeans and black trainers.

Detectives also need to speak to a fourth man who could be a key witness, helping the victim after the assault. He was seen in the Friargate area following the altercation. He is described as black, stocky build, in his late 20’s with short hair. He was possibly wearing a dark green tracksuit and had a man bag with him.

Det Insp Bryony Midgley, from the Force Major Investigation Team, said: “First and foremost my thoughts are with Jack’s loved ones. This is a heart breaking and tragic incident which happened when Jack was enjoying a night out with his friend.

“This is now a murder investigation and while we have made two arrests, we still need to speak to anyone who either saw the altercation or who saw any of the individuals described above either before or after the incident so that we can piece together the events which have led to Jack’s tragic death.

“We know a number of people were present in the area at the time, many of whom provided assistance and first aid. If you have not come forward to speak to police yet, I would urge you to please do so as soon as you can.

“Similarly, I would ask anybody who may have footage which could assist our enquiries to make contact with the police.

“Whatever information you have – no matter how insignificant you think it is – it may be key to the investigation so please come and speak to us."
