Murder investigation launched in Blackpool after woman found dead

A murder investigation has been launched in Blackpool after a woman in her 50s was found dead.

Police were called to Clayton Crescent, following a report of a concern for safety, on Wednesday night.

It's not clear yet as to how she died, but a Home Office post mortem examination is being undertaken.

A 61-year-old woman, also from Clayton Crescent, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Statement from Lancashire Police:

"We were called to Clayton Crescent, Blackpool at 10.16pm on Wednesday (May 5th) after a report of a concern for safety.

"Officers attended and found a woman in her 50s unresponsive. She was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"A Home Office post mortem examination to establish a cause of death will be conducted in due course.

"Her death is currently being treated as unexplained. A 61-year-old woman, also of Clayton Crescent, was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody.

"The investigation remains in its early stages and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log 1635 of May 5th."
