Multiple crews dealing with large fire in Haslingden

Plumes of large black smoke can be seen for miles around

Multiple fire crews are dealing with a large fire at an industrial estate in Haslingden.

Around 30 crews are currently at the scene at Carrs Industrial Estate on Commerce Street, with plumes of black smoke being seen for miles around.

Lancashire Fire & Rescue were called at just after 9am, and currently have crews from Hyndburn, Rawtenstall, Bacup and Burnley, and Greater Manchester on site.

Specialist equipment is now also being called in, including a water bowser from Leyland, the stinger from Skemersdale and the command support unit from Fulwood.

In a statement, they said: "At 09:05 on the 23rd June 2023, six fire engines from Hyndburn, Rawtenstall, Bacup and Burnley, along with a fire engine from Greater Manchester, the aerial ladder platform from Hyndburn, the water bowser from Leyland, the stinger from Skemersdale and the command support unit from Fulwood are currently in attendance at a commercial building fire on Commerce Street, Haslingden.

"Firefighters are wearing breathing apparatus are currently using one handheld jet, along with the aerial ladder platform and a ground monitor, to bring the fire under control."

There has also been a warning not to fly any drones in the area, as they are using the technology to try and assess the fire. Images have been posted on twitter, showing fire chiefs observing the fire via drone footage from above.

People are being told to avoid the area, and to keep doors and windows closed.
