Blackpool have appointed Mick McCarthy as their new manager until the end of the season.

The 63-year-old replaces Michael Appleton, who was sacked earlier this week after just seven months in charge.

He oversaw a poor run of just one win in 11 matches.

McCarthy has been out of work since leaving Cardiff City in October 2021.

His first game in charge will be on Saturday 21 January against fellow strugglers Huddersfield Town.

They are level on 26 points. Blackpool are 23rd with six wins from 27 games.
