Man from Leigh charged with attempted murder, after going on the run

Scott Higgins has been charged with a number of offences

Scott Higgins, (29/04/1988) of Kirkhall Lane in Leigh, was wanted in connection with a firearms discharge on Fisher Close in the Worsley Mesnes area of Wigan on Saturday 8 July 2023.

He was apprehended on Worsley Mesnes Drive in Wigan on Wednesday 19 July 2023 and was arrested. Higgins has now been charged on suspicion of a number of offences, including:

• Doing an act intended to pervert the course of justice

• Possession of a bladed article

• Attempted murder

• Possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life

• Possessing a bladed article in a public place

Detective Inspector Lee Gridley of Wigan CID said: "This manhunt was undertaken by my team, who were relentless in their pursuit of Higgins.

"By using CCTV and public intelligence, they were able to locate and apprehend him. This is sure to be a huge relief to the communities in both Wigan and Leigh.
