Man critically ill after assault in Lytham

He suffered serious head injuries in the attack

A man is critically ill in hospital after an assault in Lytham.

Emergency services were called, after the man was found on Henry Street at around 1.28am yesterday morning. The 25 year old had sustained serious head injuries.

Lancashire Police have now launched an appeal for information. In an update, the force has also confirmed a 20 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 grievious bodily harm.

The force said in a statement: "Officers were called at 1.28am today (June 18) to Henry Street, Lytham, to a report that a 25-year-old had been assaulted.

"The victim was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition.

"To update you, on Sunday evening police arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of section 18 grievous bodily harm. He is currently in custody."
