Man arrested after three children hit by van in Barton
One child is critically ill in hospital, after the incident yesterday
Police are questioning a man on suspicion of causing dangerous injury by dangerous driving, after three children were hit by a van in Barton, near Preston.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident on Garstang Road, at around 1.15pm yesterday.
All three children were taken to hospital, with one child in a critical but stable condition.
Lancashire Police say a 59 year old man from Nateby, near Garstang, remains in custody. Officers are now also appealing for information.
Garstang Road was closed for a number of hours whilst investigators carried out their work; although the carriageway re-opened in the early hours of this morning.
In a statement, the force said: "We were called to Garstang Road, Barton, at 1.15pm today (August 15) to reports of a serious collision involving a van and pedestrians.
"The pedestrians - three children - have been taken to hospital. One is currently in a critical but stable condition.
"A 59-year-old man from Nateby, near Garstang, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in custody at this time."
