Lancashire woman with terminal cancer called for benefits reassessment
Krissy Johnson has been asked for a 'back to work' reassessment three times
There's concern people with terminal illnesses in Lancashire feel threat of losing their benefits
It comes as a Lancashire woman with terminal cancer has been asked three times for a "back to work" reassessment.
Krissy Johnson was diagnosed with cancer in 2015- and says it's added stress people in her situation don’t need.
“It’s very upsetting and it messes about with your mind completely.
“You get a certain amount of guilt because you can’t go to work, yet you’re being hounded as though you can go to work which is sad.
“I didn’t ask to be in the position I’m in and yes, I’m not passing away right now.
“However, I would like to be able to sit back and think I don’t have to think about the money side of it, because I’d like to not leave my husband in debt.
“I understand there’s certain cases that need reviewing, however, I don’t think we should be filling the forms out in the first place.
“I think we should have a separate system for those who aren’t going to get any better.”
A spokesman for the Department for Work and Pensions said: "We apologise for the letters that Ms Johnson has received.
"We have reviewed the case and she is now being paid under the special circumstances with no break in her claim.
"We can confirm that she does not have to attend any appointments and a letter will be sent to Ms Johnson confirming this.
"Anyone having any problems with PIP should contact their local office whose staff will be able to help.
