A couple were assaulted while on a night out in Preston, leaving the woman needing hospital treatment for four fractures to her eye socket which will require surgery.

It happened in the early hours of Sunday morning (12.30am September 12th) at Hartleys wine bar on Mount Street.

The couple - a man in his 30s and a woman in her 40s - were in the balcony area when another group were being escorted from the premises.

It was at this point that a woman who was part of that group grabbed the female victim's hair and a man from the group then punched her in the face.

She fell to the floor where she was then kicked in the face.

Her partner tried to intervene but was punched by the same man. His injuries weren't serious.

In a statement, Lancashire Police said:

"The female offender is described as being around 5ft 3ins tall, with dark-coloured hair.

"The male offender is described as being stocky, over 6ft tall, with short, light-coloured hair which is shaved at the sides. He was wearing a blue jumper. It is estimated he was aged in his 40s or 50s.

"We are now appealing for information about the incident and would like to speak to anybody who saw it, or who captured any part of it on a mobile phone."

Anybody with information is asked to get in touch on 101, quoting log 605 of September 12th.
