After just 13 league games in charge, Mick McCarthy has left his position as the manager of Blackpool. The announcement came just a day after the team suffered a disappointing 3-1 home defeat to relegation rivals Cardiff City.

The former Irish national team manager was appointed by Blackpool in January 2023 with the primary objective of keeping the team in the Championship. However, the team's performances failed to improve under his guidance, and they are currently languishing bottom of the league.

In a statement released by Blackpool, the club expressed its gratitude to McCarthy for his efforts and hard work during his brief tenure.

“With results on the pitch not improving in recent weeks, the decision has been agreed by both parties that a change is needed.”

McCarthy was also quick to release a statement thanking Blackpool and wishing the team continued success.

"After recent performances and results, I have thought long and hard and feel this is the best decision for everyone concerned with the football club.

"I've loved my time here and thank everyone for their support. I wish everyone well going forward.”

It is unclear who will be appointed as the next Blackpool manager. However, the club has stated that former player Stephen Dobbie, will be in charge until the end of the season.

However, Blackpool fans will be hoping that the interim manager can bring stability and guide their team to survival as they are currently seven points from safety with just six games left.
