Blackpool FC promoted to Championship League
The Tangerines played Lincoln City at Wembley this afternoon
Thousands of Blackpool fans are celebrating as they mark their return to the Championship league after beating Lincoln City X-X at Wembley this afternoon.
4,000 Seasiders fans gathered at the iconic stadium to see the Tangerines get the glory.
It's a huge success for Neil Critchley's side, who ended the 2019/2020 campaign in 13th place after Leagues One and Two voted to end the season early due to the pandemic.
The team went into the match in third place with 80 points, while the Imps were on 77 points.
The Seasiders haven't played in the Championship for over a decade and fans are hoping it'll be a season where that won't see empty stands.
Until recently, supporters haven't been able to cheer them on at live games because of the pandemic.
Christine Seddon, head of Blackpool Supporter's Trust said:
Blackpool Tower has been lit up Tangerine this weekend to mark another play off final at Wembley.
No official celebrations for the team's triumph have been confirmed yet.
