Blackburn's coronavirus infection rate continues to rise

Blackburn with Darwen still has the highest infection rate in England.

The Covid-19 infection rate in Blackburn with Darwen is continuing to rise, according to the latest figures from Public Health England.

The borough has, again, seen one of the biggest week-on-week rises in the country. The infection rate has increased from 441.6 cases per 100,000 in the seven days to May 31, to 668 cases per 100,000 in the seven days to June 7.

Blackburn with Darwen's rate is still, by far, the highest in England.

Another significant increase is Ribble Valley - the area has seen cases rocket from 159.3 cases per 100,000 in the seven days to May 31, to 389.2 cases per 100,000 in the seven days to June 7.

Rossendale, Hyndburn, Burnley, South Ribble, Pendle, Preston, Chorley, Blackpool and Wigan are all in the top 20 areas with the highest infection rates in England.
