E-bike rider dies after collision with pedestrian in Preston

An e-bike rider has died after a collision with a pedestrian in Preston.

It happened at around 6pm on Sunday at the junction of Skeffington Road and Ribbleton Lane. The bike rider had been riding a Kona mountain bike, which had been modified into an e-bike.

The rider, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital with a serious head injury and later died. His family are being supported by specially trained officers.

The pedestrian, a boy aged 16 from Preston, was also taken to hospital with a broken leg and internal injuries. His injuries aren't thought to be life threatening.

In a statement, Lancashire Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses after an e-bike rider sadly died following a collision with a pedestrian in Preston.

"We were called at shortly after 6pm on Sunday (June 4) following the incident at the junction of Skeffington Road and Ribbleton Lane where a pedestrian crossed the road and was involved in a collision with the cycle, a Kona mountain bike modified to be an e-bike.

"The bike rider, a man in his 30s from Preston, was taken to hospital with a serious head injury and sadly died later. His family are being supported by a specially trained officer and our thoughts are with them at this time."
