Police in St Helens made three arrests last night in separate incidents after pulling over and searching two cars under the misuse of drugs act.

One of the vehicles was pulled over on Ravenstone Drive in Sutton where two women were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

It came after officers found multiple wraps of illegal drugs suspected to be Cocaine and Heroin.

In a further search of one of the women's homes, police found a wooden baton and an adapted ornamental blade which were also recovered.

The third arrest of the night happened around the Catherine Way area of Newton in the early hours of the morning.

Officers stopped a vehicle that was speeding. When they pulled the driver over, they noticed that he was showing signs of being in the influence and so was detained.

They searched the vehicle under the misuse of drugs act and found five Stanley blades scattered around the car. They also found an adapted or hand-made weapon, where plastic had been melted to hold a blade.

The man was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was later charged for failing to provide a drugs sample and possession of a weapon.
