WATCH: Benedict Cumberbatch introduces charity song raising money for refugees
Crowded House's 'Help Is Coming' is being re-released
Benedict Cumberbatch has lent his support to a charity single raising money for Syrian refugees fleeing the war torn country.
The Imitation Game and Sherlock actor introduces the video for a re-release of Crowded House’s 1995 song ‘Help Is Coming’ - all proceeds from sales will go directly to Save The Children.
Directed by Mat Whitecross, following Benedict’s introduction, the heartbreaking video features clips of the families fleeing the atrocities in their ravaged homeland.
Cumberbatch says in the into: "As people watching this tragedy unfold from the safely of our homes, with our safe children, we want to say that we see you, we hear you and help is coming."
The re-release was the brainchild of husband-and-wife journalists Pete Paphides and Caitlin Moran who came up with the idea after seeing images of three-year-old Alan Kurdi's dead body.
Caitlin said: "The day after the pictures of three-year-old Alan Kurdi went around the world - it was like a switch had been flicked.
"My social media timelines were full of people who just could not stay inactive any more... People doing that brilliant, simple, ageless human thing of wanting to help other people.
"So, Pete and I were just doing what everyone else was doing, really. He'd found the perfect song... and I just went on Facebook and told everyone what we were doing.
"And everyone was desperate to help - everyone felt the same way".
‘Help Is Coming’ is available to download from iTunes now and a special 7” version will be released by The Vinyl Factory on 29th September.
