A 45-year-old man has been left with serious facial injuries following a gang assault in Chorley.

Around 10.30pm on Saturday (May 7), Thomas Graham was walking on Lyons Lane when he approached a group of males and females.

Following a brief conversation, Mr Graham started to walk away before one of the group punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground.

The attacker and another two to three people started to repeatedly kick the victim in the head, face and body.

The assault only stopped when members of the public intervened and the offenders ran off.

Mr Graham, pictured, suffered a suspected broken nose and cheekbone and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

The first attacker is described as white, around 5ft 11in tall, of skinny build, with short to medium length dark hair and a large nose.

No descriptions are available for the other attackers.

Police are keen to trace anyone with information, including a member of the group who remained at the scene.

Det Con Alan Thomson, of South Division CID, said: “This was an unprovoked and extremely violent attack on a man on a busy main road.

“Witnesses describe one of the group, not believed to be involved in the assault, who remained at the scene and appeared concerned about the injured victim.

“We need to find those responsible for this brutal attack and I would appeal to the community or to members of this group to come forward with any information.”
