A police couple from Lancashire have been sacked for gross misconduct.

Lancashire Police has issued a statement, saying:

"On the 7th March 2016 a Public Special Case Hearing in respect of PC 2879 Nigel Mungur and PC 3315 Nicola Mungur was chaired by Chief Constable Finnigan at Leyland Police Station.

"The conduct of PC Nigel Mungur and PC Nicola Mungur was found to have breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in the areas of Honesty & Integrity; Duties & Responsibilities; Orders & Instructions; Confidentiality and Discreditable Conduct and thereby amounted to gross misconduct.

"Both PC Nigel Mungur and PC Nicola Mungur were dismissed from Lancashire Constabulary with immediate effect."

Head of Professional Standards, Superintendent Mackenzi said:

"I am always very disappointed to discover conduct such as this within Lancashire Constabulary, it undermines the great work the vast majority of a staff and officers do on a day to day basis.

"There is no place for conduct of this type within the police and we are committed to dealing with any such matters whenever and wherever they arise.

"I apologised on behalf of Lancashire Constabulary for this failure to meet the standards that we and the public quite rightly expect from our police officers."
