Chris Martin opens up about ‘year of depression’ following split with Gwyneth Paltrow
The Coldplay man reveals all.
It was one of the biggest shocks in showbiz when Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow announced their split and now the Coldplay singer has spoken out for the first time.
Chris and Gwyneth separated after 10 years of marriage in 2014 by releasing a statement on Gwyneth’s lifestyle website dubbing the split as ‘conscious uncoupling’.

Now the ‘Hymn For A Weekend’ singer has spoken out about the split calling it ‘weird’. Chris told The Sunday Times magazine “It’s always out there in the media, but I have a very wonderful separation-divorce. I’ve lived a lot since then. It’s a divorce, but it’s a weird one.”
The Coldplay frontman opened up in the candid interview admitting “It took me about a year to get it. A year of depression and all that. I still wake up down a lot of days, but now I feel like I’ve been given the tools to turn it around.”
The pair have two children together, 15-year-old Apple and nine-year-old Moses, and have remained good friends since split, with Gwyneth recently describing Chris as “like a brother.”
The actress went on to say “Even though we’re not in a romantic relationship, we’re a true family and we like to do things to reinforce that we’re a family for the children and each other.”
39-year-old Chris is certainly keeping himself occupied at the moment. The singer, along with his band Coldplay, headlined the American Super Bowl earlier in the year where he was joined by family friend Beyoncé and Bruno Mars on stage.
