Will the budget help tackle the cladding scandal?
There's hope that funding to tackle the cladding scandal in Leeds will be announced in today's budget
Earlier this month there was reports that the new housing secretary, Michael Gove, is considering options to help home owners living in building with flammable cladding, make their homes safe.
It's thought there could be an update in today's Budget.
It's been reported that Rishi Sunak was set to launch a ÂŁ2bn levy on housebuilders to pay for removing dangerous cladding from buildings. This could also appear in the budget.
Racheal Loftus lives in a 7 story building in Leeds, with timber cladding and other materials that shouldn't be used on high rise buildings, she said:
"I would like to see the chancellor commit to front funding the money needed to make sure people are living in safe buildings as soon as possible, and not condemn a generation of people like me to either live in unsafe buildings forever or use our entire financial futures to make sure that these buildings are safe.
"I just don't know what to say, because we are absolutely at our wits end, and there's absolutely nothing any of us can do to protect ourselves, we are 100% reliant on government at this point.
"Make the people who should be accountable, accountable. Make sure that they're the ones who are paying from their massive profits, on the buildings we've already paid for. Just protect a generation of leaseholders, who could never have foreseen being in this position that we are in."
