A male domestic abuse charity, Mankind Initiative, is urging men in West Yorkshire to use their confidential helpline if they're suffering in silence.

10,000 calls were made by men to West Yorkshire Police last year to reporter abuse.

The charity runs a confidential helpline to 'give practical advice, emotional support and information to male victims.'

They're now urging more male victims in communities across West Yorkshire to speak out, after the recent passing of new domestic abuse laws by Parliament (Domestic Abuse Act 2021).

Mark Brooks from the charity said:

"They can talk to somebody about their experience, confirm what they're going through is domestic abuse and give them information on how they can think about escaping.

"Around 10,000 men a year report to West Yorkshire police that they're a victim of domestic abuse, but what we saw during covid, was that domestic abuse that was already happening, intensified."

The number for the helpline is 01823 334244 and is open weekdays 10am- 4pm.
