Nightclubs 'singled out' ahead of busy Christmas weekend
Anyone visiting a nightclub must show they are double vaccinated or proof of a negative covid test
Nightclub owners in West Yorkshire say they are 'disappointed' that they've been 'singled out once again', as covid passports are in place the weekend before Christmas.
The new measures require proof of double-vaccination or a negative PCR or lateral flow test result within the last 48 hours for those attending some venues.
To prove their status, people can use the NHS COVID Pass app, or a text message or email from NHS Test and Trace.
A covid pass is needed to enter nightclubs and other large events in England.
Simon Jackson is from Acapulco Nightclub in Halifax, he said:
"Nightclubs have been named and almost singled out, there's thousands of other businesses in the country that haven't really been affected. Even the student accommodations and universities where thousands of people meet each day, the same age group that like to go to nightclubs, and yet nightclubs seem to be suffering, as last time.
"Last time with the lockdown, many nightclubs changed their names to night pubs or night restaurants, sometimes just offering a slice of pizza to find a loop hole, but at the expense of everyone else. If everyone sticks together, hopefully we will be able to stay open over the Christmas period."
