Mixed views in West Yorkshire about further easing of lockdown
An announcement is expected today (14th June) about whether or not restrictions will fully lift on 21st June
We'll find out later today if the Prime Minister is going ahead, with fully lifting lockdown restrictions on 21st June.
Step four of the roadmap out of lockdown would see the removal of all social contact limits and the opening of nightclubs and large events.
There's been talks of delaying the relaxation by four weeks.
Well, we've been speaking to people in Batley, to see what they think should happen, they said:
"I don't think it should happen, not the way the rate of infection is going up. I think it will be a bad decision, if they can just leave it as it is now and just gradually do it.
"You'd think we'd not done all of this, to just go out and forget about it, they should do it slowly, slowly, that's how they should do it, because if not people are just going to go boom. You've still got to be cautious, I think it'll take a long time to get back to how it was.
"People are getting stressed, I have friends now that won't come out, who used to come out."
There's concerns the delay of lifting all restrictions, could bring more challenges for the hospitality sector.
"We absolutely don't want to go back into another full lockdown."
Some venues are already functioning at just half their usual capacity, and most say they can’t maintain their current shortfall in income.
Phil Jones from Ilkley Cinema said:
"With reduced capacity, we can only take a maximum of 50%, so at the moment it's difficult to make any money. I think it's more about keeping our heads above water, and then hopefully when they relax the restrictions, we can then talk about any sort of profit.
"We absolutely don't want to go back into another full lockdown. So, lets not rush into anything, I think for the sake of a couple of weeks, it's probably better in the long run for businesses like ours."
