Huge Bradford fire 'likely' caused by electrical fault
The blaze broke out in Thorncliffe Road earlier this year
One of the biggest fires in Bradford in the past year was caused by an electrical fault – it has been revealed.
The blaze at a wholesale food distributors on Thorncliffe Road, Manningham, began in the early morning of June 7, and by the time the fire was brought under control 62 firefighters and seven officers had been on scene to deal with the incident.
Next Friday West Yorkshire Fire Authority will receive a report on some of the biggest fires in the area from April to the end of June.
Referring to the Thorncliffe Road fire, the report reveals that crews were called to the scene from across West Yorkshire, and the incident was not officially closed until after 7pm that day.
The fire led to road closures, as well as a number of schools and nurseries having to close, and some of the buildings that had been damaged were pulled down for safety reasons.
The report says: “The most likely cause of the fire is thought to be a faulty electrical appliance.”
