A train station cat in Huddersfield, who became a huge internet star, has passed away aged 12.

Felix joined the staff there in 2011, becoming their 'Senior Pest Controller', and helped raised thousands of pounds for charity after a social media page for her went viral.

She was often spotted on the platforms in a bid to catch mice, while wearing a name badge and high-vis vest, and even got her own apprentice, Bolt, in 2018.

The pair featured in two books together.

A post on social media confirmed the news:

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Felix.

"On Sunday evening, she peacefully went to sleep, in the loving comfort of Angie Hunte (Station Manager) and Jacqui Cox (Station Team Leader).

"Felix joined TPE in 2011 and since then has left paw prints across the hearts of people from all over the world.

"We will miss her dearly.

"A fitting tribute and memorial for Felix will be organised in due course and the station team need time to process and grieve this deep loss.

"Thank you for all the memories Felix. Sleep peacefully."

Angie Hunte, Huddersfield Station Manager for TransPennine Express, said: “Felix was more than a cat; she was a beloved member of our station family and left her paw prints on many commuters’ hearts as they passed through the station.

“Her presence brought smiles to visitors from around the world, making Huddersfield Station a special place. We will miss her dearly.”

TransPennine say Felix was put to sleep after the discovery of tumours which led to medical complications.
