Appeal after 14 year old girl pushed into Dewsbury canal

The suspect, believed to be in his 20s, also touched the victim inappropriately

Police have released a E-FIT of a man they're looking for after a 14 year old girl was pushed into a canal and sexually assaulted in Dewsbury.

It happened at around 2pm on the 14th of August close to Schofield Bridge

The victim was approached by an Asian man in his 20s before being pushed.

When she climbed out of the water she and a friend were sexually assaulted by the man.

Both escaped physically unharmed but were shaken up by the incident.

Inspector Lee Baragwanath, of West Yorkshire Police, said:

“We have been conducting extensive enquiries into this incident since it was reported, and are now in a position to release an E-FIT of a man we wish to speak with.

“Due to the nature of the incident this matter was recorded as a sexual offence and we have been speaking with the victim’s and their parents.

“Thankfully incidents of this nature are rare and no subsequent offences of this kind have been reported.

“I would ask anyone who recognises the man pictured or who has any information at all about what took place to contact us.

“You may hold a vital piece of information that will enable us to identify this offender.”
