West Yorkshire Autumn Grant Round 2018

Cash for Kids and their Local Executive Board granted over £4,000, supporting over 100 local children in their Autumn Grant Round.

Wakefield Outward Bound Trust - £1,000 – 5 Children

Wakefield Outward Bound Trust are a purely voluntary group which promotes courses individuals who may otherwise not be able to afford attendance on personal development courses. These courses involve a wide range of activities including canoeing, hill walking, gorge-walking and climbing. The benefits of these courses include, improved communication skills and confidence building. Cash for Kids have agreed funding for 5 children to go on these weekly courses, which will help them gain essential life skills, including: setting and achieving goals, cooperation and collaboration, and listening and communicating effectively.

North Leeds Scouts - £1,000 – 50 Children

The North Leeds District has 18 Scout groups and around 1,700 members, composed of boys and girls. Memberships have increased by around 14% in the last four years. They cover some of the most deprived areas in Leeds, where, for example, 38% of the children are classed as being raised in poverty, so that youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds have the opportunity to participate in scouting. They applied for a grant to ensure that money would not be an obstacle for a young person joining their groups or taking part in activities. Cash for Kids have agreed funding for items such as: jumpers, shirts, hiking boots and sleeping bags.

Child aged 4 – £1,731 – 2 Children

Child’s parents explained that their child was diagnosed with Smith Magenis Syndrome which affects his physical development, growth, behaviour and communication skills. Child also has a hearing impairment, curvature of his spine and a hole in his heart. He has a specialised wheelchair as he struggles with his mobility. His parents explained that their driveway is uneven tarmac which makes it unsafe for child to get to and from the bus that picks him up and takes him to school. Resin Drives.co.uk agreed to install the driveway for the family, however they needed funding for materials. Cash for Kids agreed funding for the materials needed to install the driveway, which in turn will make such a difference to the child’s life now he is able to attend school.
