Violence breaks out after Southampton-Tottenham match

Ten people have been arrested after violence broke out following Southampton and Tottenham's Premier League match.

The game at Southampton's St Mary's Stadium ended in a 3-3 draw.

Around an hour after full time, Hampshire Police say officers were called to reports of violent disorder between Southampton and Tottenham supporters on Terminus Terrace.

Fights are reported to have broken out at the junction with Oxford Street.

A number of people are said to have been involved, with tables, chairs and glasses being thrown, as well as a man being assaulted.

The man, a 61-year-old from Bursledon, suffered facial injuries and attended hospital for treatment.

Hampshire Police statement

Detective Inspector Tim Judd from Hampshire Police said:

“This would have been a frightening experience for those who witnessed this incident. There would have been a lot of people out and about in the area enjoying their Saturday evening who suddenly found themselves at the centre of this disorder.

“We believe those involved had been the Southampton FC Vs Tottenham Hotspur game at St Mary’s Stadium and were making their way out of the city when the incident occurred.

“We’d like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time who witnessed what happened, may have footage of the incident filmed on their phones, or anyone who may have been driving passed and has a dashcam fitted to their vehicle. If you do have any information that could help, please contact us on 101 quoting 44230108876.”

Ten people were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and other associated offences. They are all currently in police custody.

• Four men from Waltham Cross aged 22, 23, 25 and 27.

• A 19-year-old man from Haringey.

• A 33-year-old man from London.

• A 24-year-old man from Hoddeson.

• A 24-year-old man from Kings Lynn.

• A 19-year-old from Southampton.

• A 31-year-old man from Bournemouth.
